Welcome to the Home/Front Page of my School Librarian's Wiki
The purpose of this wiki is to support students and their parents with authoritative and K-12 age-appropriate resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week regardless that their brick and mortar library is closed or they can't speak to a librarian in person for help!
The Vision
My physical Library Media Centers/Research Centers/Learning Centers/Literacy Centers, whatever moniker you choose,are the places where:
Authentic learning experiences take place (the junction of critical thinking and organized research and writing occurs);
The foundation of the school's reading program exists through its implementation of engaging reading practices which are transparent to the students (they don't realize they are
doing it through the use of our technologies, social networking, writing, extra-curricular activities, and feeding their personal interests);
and,
The hub of excitement about discovery and learning and applying what is learned in a text-rich environment available in various formats which is relevant to today's generation of students' learning
styles and experiences!
This PBWiki affords the use of new internet technologies, social networking, read-write connections, and project collaborating to create new learnings, inspire new thinking, and learn from each unique other person's thoughts, background, experiences, aptitudes, attitudes, learning styles, and multiple intelligences-
Real 21st Century world skills beyond performing on standardized tests.
I hope you enjoy your journey on this site while gaining a lot of knowlege through a little guidance, and you learn a lot with- and from- your colleagues on your journey,
Melissa V. Rentchler, MLIS, M.Ed.
